and more correctly نوشيدني غيرالكلي soft drink(s); non-alcoholic drink(s) – N.B. In Persian, نوشابه is typically said of soft drinks and does not precisely include alcohol although it may also be intended by less careful speakers as a generic term for all kinds of drinks, or it may be used humorously or obliquely by careful speakers to refer to, enquire about, or ask for alcohol when they are being entertained on the assumption, on the part of the speaker, that the speaker’s host understands what he is referring to, in this case word being a euphemism in Persian for alcoholic drinks. Unlike its near-synonym نوشيدني , however, which is both adjective and noun in Persian, (and such as is true with the majority of adjectives in Persian) نوشابه functions only as a noun and not as a ‘noun and adjective.’. cf نوشيدني in the main entry below.
